0xDrive Controls
Every parameter follows the signal chain from input to output. Understanding the order helps you shape your tone with precision.
Signal Chain
Filters and gain stages outside the oversampled section operate at the native sample rate, keeping CPU cost low while the distortion core runs at the selected oversampling multiple.
Input Gain
Parameter ID: gainIn | Range: -24 dB to +24 dB | Default: 0 dB
Adjusts the signal level before any processing occurs. Boosting input gain drives the distortion stage harder - the resulting character depends on the algorithm selected. Cutting input gain brings the distortion into cleaner, more subtle territory without changing the Drive knob setting.
-24 to -6 dB
Attenuates before distortion. Useful for hot sources that would otherwise clip excessively.
0 dB (default)
Unity gain - the Drive knob alone controls distortion intensity.
+6 to +24 dB
Pre-boost before distortion. Pushes neural and analogue models into heavier saturation.
Low Cut
Parameter ID: lowCut | Range: 20 Hz to 500 Hz | Default: 20 Hz
High-pass filter applied before the distortion stage. Removing low-frequency content prior to clipping prevents intermodulation distortion between sub-bass energy and higher harmonics - a common cause of muddy, undefined overdrive tones.
- 20 Hz (minimum): Filter is effectively open - all bass passes through.
- 80-120 Hz: Typical setting for guitar - removes flub while preserving body.
- 200-500 Hz: Aggressive cut for tight, focused distortion on dense mixes.
Oversampling
Parameter ID: oversample | Options: 1x, 2x, 4x, 8x, 16x | Default: 4x
Oversampling runs the distortion core at a higher internal sample rate to push aliasing artifacts far above the audible band, where they are removed by the downsampling filter before returning to native rate. Higher multiples produce cleaner, more alias-free harmonics at the cost of additional CPU.
No oversampling. Lowest CPU. Audible aliasing on aggressive settings.
Light aliasing reduction. Good for live use where CPU is limited.
Recommended for most sessions. Excellent quality at moderate CPU cost.
High quality. Ideal for mixing sessions. Pairs well with neural models.
Maximum quality. Use for final render or mastering-grade processing.
Oversampling adds latency reported to the DAW - the host compensates automatically during recording and mixing. For live monitoring, prefer 1x or 2x.
Distortion Type
Parameter ID: distortionType | 16 algorithms | Default: Tube
Selects the distortion algorithm. All 16 types share the same signal chain - only the core saturation function changes. The Drive and Tone knobs interact differently with each algorithm.
Classic DSP
Tube
Warm tube saturation using tanh transfer with 2nd harmonic emphasis. Smooth, musical, never harsh.
Tape
Smooth tape compression with atan saturation. Natural limiting and subtle frequency smearing.
Transistor
Aggressive asymmetric hard-clipping. Adds odd harmonics for a cutting, modern overdrive character.
Fuzz
Full signal destruction via cubic soft-clipping. Maximum harmonic density and sustain.
Wavefold
Complex harmonic generation through wavefolding. Creates rich, inharmonic textures at high drive.
Bitcrush
Digital crunch via bit-depth quantization. Adds gritty aliasing artifacts intentionally.
GIMZWARE Proprietary (Mark of the Beast)
GIMZ Horn
Koren triode model with HEAT harmonic enhancement. The most accurate tube simulation.
GIMZ Hoof
Jiles-Atherton magnetic hysteresis model. Physically-accurate tape saturation with frequency-dependent compression.
GIMZ Gore
Circuit-accurate feedback clipping. Inspired by classic screamer topology with a more aggressive edge.
GIMZ Fang
Multi-stage germanium cascade. Captures the sag and bias-point instability of vintage fuzz pedals.
GIMZ Claw
Transparent harmonic exciter. Adds presence and upper harmonics without thickening the fundamental.
GIMZ Tail
Transformer saturation model. Full-spectrum warmth with asymmetric even-harmonic coloration.
Neural Network Models
Neural Skull
Heavy, aggressive amp tone. LSTM model trained on a high-gain head pushed into the power section.
Neural Spine
Tight, focused mid-range drive. Precise character ideal for cut-through rhythm tones.
Neural Venom
Searing lead tone with long sustain. Elevated upper harmonics and pronounced compression.
Neural Soul
Warm, musical breakup. Responds dynamically to pick attack - clean with light touch, saturated when driven.
See the Neural Models page for full detail on LSTM inference, hardware sourcing, and usage tips.
Drive
Parameter ID: drive | Range: 0 - 1 | Default: 0.5
Controls the intensity of the selected distortion algorithm. The taper and character of the response differs between algorithm families - neural models apply an additional drive scaling (0.5x to 3.0x) to remain responsive across the full knob range.
Barely saturated. Harmonic coloring only.
Gentle saturation. Musical crunch.
Full overdrive character.
Heavy clipping and compression.
Maximum saturation. Full harmonic destruction.
High Cut
Parameter ID: hiCut | Range: 1 kHz to 20 kHz | Default: 20 kHz
Low-pass filter applied after the distortion and downsampling stage. Tames high-frequency harshness introduced by aggressive clipping algorithms. Reducing this below 8 kHz produces a distinctly vintage, speaker-cabinet character.
- 20 kHz (maximum): Filter open - full bandwidth passes through.
- 6-8 kHz: Classic cabinet simulation range. Removes fizz and air.
- 1-4 kHz: Heavy telephone/megaphone effect. Extreme creative use.
Mix
Parameter ID: mix | Range: 0 - 100% | Default: 100%
Blends the processed (wet) signal with the original (dry) signal for parallel distortion. The dry signal bypasses all processing - including filters and oversampling - so there is no added latency artifact on the dry path.
Parallel distortion at moderate mix values (20-50%) adds harmonic density and aggression while preserving the transient clarity of the original signal. This is especially effective on bass, drums, and full program material.
0%
Fully dry. Equivalent to true bypass - no processing applied.
25-50%
Parallel blend. Adds thickness and harmonics while retaining dynamics.
100% (default)
Fully wet. Only the distorted signal passes through.
Output Level
Parameter ID: gainOut | Range: -24 dB to +24 dB | Default: 0 dB
Final volume control applied after the wet/dry mix. Use this to compensate for the perceived loudness increase that comes with distortion - a heavily driven signal typically needs 6-12 dB of output reduction to match the bypassed level.
Both Input Gain and Output Level are smoothed with a 20 ms ramp to prevent clicks during automation playback.
Bypass
Parameter ID: bypass | Type: Boolean
True hardware-style bypass. When active, the input signal is passed directly to the output with zero processing and zero added latency. The oversampling latency compensation value reported to the DAW drops to 0 samples, keeping plugin delay compensation accurate.
Bypass is fully automatable and smoothed to prevent clicks when switching during playback.
