Stem Controls

Control individual stems with precision.

Stem Faders

Each of the six stems has its own vertical fader for volume control. The faders operate from -∞ dB (fully down) to +6 dB (fully up), with 0 dB as the default unity position.

Mute & Solo

Below each fader are M (mute) and S (solo) buttons:

M

Mute

Silences the stem completely. Useful for removing vocals (karaoke) or isolating specific elements.

S

Solo

Mutes all other stems, letting you hear only the selected stem. Multiple stems can be soloed simultaneously.

Pan Controls

Each stem has a pan knob that positions it in the stereo field from hard left (-100%) through centre (0%) to hard right (+100%).

Pan is useful for creating space between stems or achieving creative stereo effects.

Level Metering

Each stem channel displays real-time level metering showing both RMS (average) and peak levels.

  • Green: Safe levels (-∞ to -12 dB)
  • Yellow: Moderate levels (-12 to -3 dB)
  • Red: Hot levels (-3 to 0 dB)

DAW Automation

All stem controls are fully automatable in your DAW. You can automate:

  • Stem volume levels (vocalGain, drumGain, bassGain, guitarGain, pianoGain, otherGain)
  • Mute states (vocalMute, drumMute, bassMute, guitarMute, pianoMute, otherMute)
  • Solo states (vocalSolo, drumSolo, bassSolo, guitarSolo, pianoSolo, otherSolo)
  • Pan positions (vocalPan, drumPan, bassPan, guitarPan, pianoPan, otherPan)
  • Global bypass

Built-in Per-Stem EQ

Each stem has a built-in 3-band shelving EQ for tonal shaping directly inside StemX - no need to export stems first.

LOW200 HzLow shelf

Boost or cut sub-bass and low-end warmth. Useful for adding weight to drums or thinning out muddy stems.

MID1 kHzPeaking

Shape the body and presence of each stem. Add clarity to vocals or reduce boxiness in guitar and piano.

HIGH4 kHzHigh shelf

Control brightness and air. Add sparkle to vocals, tame harsh cymbals, or brighten dull guitar tones.

Each band offers ±12 dB of gain. EQ is applied per-stem before panning and the output mix, giving you 18 EQ bands of control across all six stems. All EQ parameters are fully automatable in your DAW.

Advanced: Export for Deep EQ

For maximum tonal control beyond the built-in 3-band EQ, export stems and load them onto separate DAW tracks. Use your favourite parametric EQ plugins for surgical frequency shaping - subtractive cuts, tonal boosts, and creative colouring on each stem independently.
