Performance Tips
Optimise StemX for the best performance on your system.
Optimisation Priority
- 1
Enable GPU Acceleration
This is the single most impactful optimisation. GPU processing can reduce latency by 50-70%.
- 2
Update GPU Drivers
Outdated drivers can cause poor performance or prevent GPU detection entirely.
- 3
Optimise Buffer Size
256-512 samples is ideal. Higher buffers reduce CPU load but increase latency.
- 4
Use High Performance Power Plan
Prevents CPU/GPU throttling during intensive processing.
Buffer Size Guide
| Buffer | Latency @44.1kHz | Use Case |
|---|---|---|
| 128 | ~3ms | Recording (GPU required) |
| 256 | ~6ms | Live monitoring (GPU recommended) |
| 512 | ~12ms | General use (balanced) |
| 1024 | ~23ms | Mixing (low CPU) |
| 2048 | ~46ms | Rendering only |
WINDOWS
- Use ASIO audio driver (not WASAPI/DirectSound)
- Disable Windows audio enhancements
- Set power plan to High Performance
- Disable Game Mode and Game Bar
- Close background applications
macOS
- Run DAW natively (not under Rosetta 2)
- Disable automatic graphics switching
- Keep macOS updated for CoreML improvements
- Close memory-hungry apps (browsers)
- Use Apple Silicon for best CoreML performance
